I had the same problem. Sooooo much smudging, it really makes the work look messy. I'm not nearly as good an artist as you but I'm slowly moving away from the smudge tool and it's helping my work tremendously! I'm also going to try your technique of shrinking an image down, the logic makes sence. But one question: how do you do these paintings so quickly when they are on such a large canvas?
