Description A demon in form of a barn owl, staring at you from the netherworld of its own dreams. Here, I depict that realm as a place of greenish fog and complete darkness.
Normally, barn owls are beautiful and cute, yet the black eyes and reddish-brown color around them give this one a demonic appearance. Barn owls, in terms of humans, have a smooth, expressionless, white face, which also enables them to depict demons.
Scientific name: Barn owl - Tyto alba
------- I really wanted it to look like a painting this time, but it didn't quite work out that way. Original resolution: 8200 x 5280 pixel Shrinking this down eliminated almost all recognizable brush strokes - which is, by the way, how you achieve such realism.
Reference was kindly provided by *PiTurianer. I seriously could paint most of his gallery. It's that good.

I am blown away by your work. The realism is amazing. The detail of this owl is absolutely incredible. However, the overall lighting doesn't quite make sense to me with the rest of the painting. The background makes me think the light is rising up from the green smoke, so having such bright highlights on the top of the owl's head and very soft flat lighting on the front of the owl is somewhat confusing. The background also confused me until I read your description. It doesn't have the realism of the owl, however you mentioned you were going for more of a painting look, so that was probably your intention.
That said, I really love the whole piece. The face of this barn owl is absolutely captivating! I especially love the eyes. They are so dark and deep, with just enough reflection to look alive and mysterious. He seems like he is going to stare right down into the depths of your soul. The spots on the owl are wonderful and I love the incredible detail in the feathers. I also like the smokey and wispy quality of the background. After I read your description, it definitely made me think of a vast, dark, empty place with only the luminescent, swirling, green smoke at my feet and this owl before my eyes. I would perhaps have like to see more wisps and curls, but I like that it does not distract from the owl.
Overall the piece has incredible impact and I could stare at it for quite a long time drinking in all the wonderful detail of this owl. You are very talented and have an amazing gallery and I hope to see more such wonderful pieces.
